The site is a prime sea-front property, located on the beautiful western sea-face at Prabhadevi in Mumbai. The design of the houses is thus inspired by ideas of living with and by the water, evolving homes that will allow the users to completely immerse themselves in the experience of the sea.
The bold move of splitting the house diagonally is to promote the integration of its interiors with the sea.
Courtyards and common spaces are articulated along this diagonal axis.
The core concept of the house is to allow these spaces to lead the user from the main entrance court of the house towards the outdoor court- a double height space which transforms the house into more of a villa unit.
This central space is translated into a double height space within the house that allows the two levels of each duplex to relate to each other.
These core double-height spaces are held together by a concept feature wall which defines the split in the house and facilitates the integration of the 2 levels of each duplex.
The other programs of the house are then modelled around this central core spaces. Based on functionality and efficiency of use, the service block is detached from the main house and is accessed directly from the staircase and lift block of the building.
